Our Story
It’s Been a Journey…
Every Sunday Henry and Eileen (Henry’s wife) would pass the same man sitting on the same bench. They asked the question
“There must be something we can do …”
Service Station was established in 2011. Originally set up to provide a drop in for people with empty Sundays, particularly those coming out of prison. A chance to make friends and eat some good food, in the form of bacon rolls, soup or sandwiches.
Many pastoral needs were shared and, following successful awards of funding, a part time fieldworker was appointed to come alongside people.
Henry Le Ruez a serving Prison Chaplain which gave him the experience and ability to support ex-offenders in the transition from custody to the new and often hostile world outside.
Henry Le Ruez was the Channel Islands winner of the 2013 Daily Mirror/ITV Pride of Britain award, nominated by one of the people we support.
The number of contacts and complexity of the work has increased over the years, as has the support of individuals in the Court system.
This led to a second part time fieldworker (Peter Le Gal) to be taken on in 2024 with the mandate to support young offenders and others in the 18 - 25 age bracket.
